Kung Fu

Kung Fu is used to describe a collection of Chinese Martial Arts, and a series of hard and soft fighting styles that has developed over a long period of time. Modern Kung Fu classes teach self-defence techniques drawing from different styles as set out below, with kicking, punching and sometimes the use of weapons.

Systema

Systema is a martial art that was created during the 400 year old Mongol occupation of Russia. It was created to provide a martial art that could be taught and learned quickly and easily to provide maximum protection and self defence by utilising close-quarters-combat.

MMA

Mixed martial arts is a full contact sport that combines different fighting styles, including karate, boxing, kick boxing, wrestling, muay thai and Brazilian ju jitsu. So you will learn a wide mix of styles. Athletes tend to find their own particular style when training.

Jeet Kune Do

Jeet Kune Do is a ‘street combat’ martial art system that was heavily popularised by the famous martial artist Bruce Lee. A relatively modern system, founded in 1969, Jeet Kune Do was created not only as an eclectic and extremely effective martial art but also as a philosophy of life.

Tai Chi

Tai Chi originates from 13th century China as a self-defence Martial Art, however today it is typically practiced for its health benefits. Tai Chi promotes the use of internal energy (or Qi) and focusses on developing suppleness of the body incorporating elegant, slow and soft movements

Ninjutsu

Ninjutsu, also known as Ninjitsu, Ninpō, or Shinobi-jutsu is the martial art, tactics and strategy utilised by the Shinobi or Ninja (if outside of Japan).

Kendo

‘Ken’ means sword and ‘Do’ is the way, so Kendo, translates literally to mean ‘The way of the sword’ – it is a modern Japanese martial art which provides a number of challenges – both physical and psychological

Kenpo

Although it is a martial art, Kenpo is not about fighting, it is a way to efficiently end an altercation once the Kenpoka is attacked.

Muay Thai

Muay Thai or Thai boxing is a martial art that originated in Thailand. Its history dates back to approximately several hundred years ago in the 14th century. However, many details of its beginnings have been lost and shrouded in mystery, as this was a period of national conflict.

Krav Maga

Krav Maga is a practical, fighting self-defence style that has its roots with the Israeli Defence Force, where it was perfected as a realistic approach to hand-to-hand combat. The original idea was to teach recruits about ways to protect themselves when their weapons were not to hand.
